Food Committee

The Food Committee (FC) is comprised of members from across the food supply chain (importers, exporters, manufacturers, and retailers) and their service providers.

The committee informs and influences government policy through papers, submissions and face-to-face dialogue on initiatives relating to the international movement of safe food and the development of government programs and policies that may unintentionally interfere with the movement of food. It also advocates on behalf of members on matters of enforcement and compliance, and coordination of operational initiatives among government departments.

Currently, the Food Committee is focused on addressing the following priorities:

  • Safe Food For Canadians Regulation
  • Food Importer/Exporters Licensing
  • Non Resident Importers
  • Electronic Service Delivery Platform: CFIA issuing of export and import permits and licenses
  • Non-health related food labelling changes (e.g. method of production claims, net quantity, container sizes etc.)
  • Nutrition Labelling
  • Meat Attestation
  • Fortification of Flour Requirements

The Food Committee meets once per quarter; it also will hold webinars and ad hoc meetings on specific issues as needed. See calendar below.

If you are interested in joining the Food Committee or would like more information, please contact Keith Mussar at kmussar@iecanada.com or 416-595-5333 ext. 205.
