CHINA
March 8, 2025 - China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) formally announced the conclusion of its “anti-discrimination” investigation that it initiated against Canada on September 26, 2024, in response to Canada implementing trade measures targeting certain imports from China (Chinese-made electrical vehicles (EVs), steel, and aluminum). Additional details on the results and findings from MOFCOM’s anti-discrimination investigation may be found through the weblink provided above.
The announcement states that, as of March 20th, 2025, 100 percent tariffs will be imposed on a list of 8 Canadian products, including rapeseed oil, rapeseed meal (cake), and peas, and 25 percent tariffs on a list of 49 fish/seafood products and 15 pork products (English translations of the lists are attached). Please note that the announcement uses the term “rapeseed” for “canola”.
In addition to MOFCOM’s announcement, the tariffs were announced via China’s Ministry of Finance and a China Tariff Commission Announcement No. 3 of 2025.
Please note that imports of canola seed from Canada were not included in the MOFCOM announcement. However, imports of canola seed from Canada remain the subject of a separate ongoing anti-dumping investigation that China initiated shortly before it launched its above-mentioned anti-discrimination investigation against Canada.
